On March 5th, ace actor Irrfan Khan posted a tweet that he is suffering from a rare disease and that the details will be shared after a conclusive diagnosis. The news not only made his fans upset but it also led to a lot of speculations of the actor is at the fourth stage of brain cancer. Although those were all rumours, it turns out that Irrfan is actually fighting a serious disease.

In a recent post on Twitter, the actor revealed that he is suffering from Neuroendocrine Tumour. The disease is so rare that it occurs in less than one per million cases and usually affects people aged from 30 to 50. The actor also addressed the speculations and clarified that the term neuro isn’t always related to the brain.

Here’s what Irrfan Khan tweeted about his rare disease:

Evidently, the actor has gone abroad for the treatment and hopefully he will be back with the same charm and good health. Meanwhile he has requested his fans and well wishers to pray for him.

As everyone is wondering how serious the disease is, here are the details about the neuroendocrine tumour:

It’s a condition in which the neuroendocrine cells- which control how quickly the food moves through the gastrointestinal tract- develop into tumour. Commonly, it could grow in lungs, pancreas, intestines, but it may also develop behind the breastbone or in pancreas, kidney, ovaries, testicles. The symptoms differ as per the location of the tumour. As far as the curability is concerned, if the tumour is at such place from where it can be surgically removed then the chances of cure are very high.

As of now, the actor is getting his treatment done and is surrounded by his loved ones for all the support. Meanwhile, his upcoming film Blackmail is likely to be released on its scheduled date despite the actor’s ill health. Reportedly, the makers were thinking of delaying the release but Irrfan told them not to postpone the date as it’s his “most-loved film”.
