ISRO successfully brings first made in India space shuttle: RLV-TD

Whole of India should gear up to see something historical, as for the very first time, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has made it clear that it is ready to launch a ‘made-in-India’ space shuttle. It’s called RLV –TD i.e Reusable Launch Vehicle – Technology Demonstrator. This maiden effort through the Indian side must be applauded because now the actual game plan of PM Modi’s Make in India is achieving perfect results.

Today at Sriharikota, final touches are being given to the wings of the shuttle, and soon the sporty utility vehicle will be seen tested by the ISRO officials.

Scientist at ISRO said, “We believe, that we can reduce the cost of launching stuff into space by as much as 10 times if reusable technology succeeds, bringing it down to $2,000 per kg.”

This made in India space shuttle will have delta wings and it’s not yet designed to float. K Sivan, the director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre of Thiruvananthapuram, says, “These are just the first baby steps towards the big Hanuman leap.” The final version of RLV – TD will take minimum 10-15 years to get ready mainly because designing a human rated reusable rocket is no piece of cake.
