Bollywood film industry lost its one more gem. The national award winning hindi film director Kundan Shah passed away at his Mumbai residence on Saturday morning. Mr. Shah was 69 and could not survive heart attack. This veteran director Kundan Shah was best known for directing the 1983 satirical film, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’. Have a look on his life.
His Personal life
Mr. Shah was alumni of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ was his first film as a director and is still considered as one of the classics of Hindi cinema. He also won the National Award in ‘Best First Film of a Director’ category for this film. In 2015, Shah returned the award during the student protest in his alma mater FTII.
His Works
His other works are popular Hindi TV show ‘Nukkad, which was aired on Doordarshan. In 1988, he directed the sitcom, Wagle Ki Duniya, based on cartoonist R.K. Laxman’s character, the common man. Mr. Shah also made film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa starring Shah Rukh Khan and Suchitra. In fact, one of the biggest hit of 2000‘Kya Kehna’ starring Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachur Singh was made by Shah. This film really impressed the audience. After this movie, Shah didn’t give any hit to Bollywood.

Producer and director Karan Johar tweeted for Mr. Shah,”RIP Kundan Shah…. a cult filmmaker …a solid story teller…..”
Another tweet is by film director Mahesh Bhatt, “A brave man Kundan Shah, who added vigour to the alternate cinema stream with movies like Jaane bhi do yaaro has left us. Adieux Kundan”
