Assuming the role of the new head of Twitter on Monday, Parag Agrawal went from obscure as a platform tech guru to a newborn leader of Indian descent. Unlike his boss and CEO Jack Dorsey, Agrawal played a lesser role in the company until Monday. The platform only has around 24,000 subscribers, compared to nearly 6 million of Dorsey’s.

However, Agrawal’s tweets, “Thank you, Jack, I respect your decision and am extremely humbled.”

Agrawal is also a recent star of Indian origin who was elected CEO of an American tech company, after Sundar Pichai, CEO of parent company Google Alphabets, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

Dorsey quoted Agrawal in a statement to Twitter: “It’s behind every major decision that has helped change this business. “I learn every day as a person who puts my whole heart and soul into it. As a CEO, I believe it.”

A computer science and engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay and a PhD from Stanford University in California, Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 and was promoted to CTO in 2017.

As the company’s chief technology officer, he oversees technology education and intelligence, as well as the company’s broad technology portfolio.

Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi told AFP these peculiarities led him to choose to replace Dorsey.
In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies will become more and more important to keep the platform healthy and attractive for users and business benefits, ”said he declared. Milanesi added that “we will see a lot of solid and necessary reasons in the decision-making process”.

Agrawal is also the head of the “Bluesky” company to create more openness and freedom for the media.
“I know some of you know me well, some a little, some not at all,” Agrawal said in an email to 5,500 Twitter followers in San Francisco.

The platform has grown less rapidly than its neighbours in Silicon Valley and has performed negatively against Meta, the parent company of two digital broadcasters, Google and Facebook.

Twitter, which made its first income in 2017, has returned several times since. Dorsey is probably best known to the public as the man who kicked Donald Trump from Twitter. The former president likes to speak loudly to his fans and protest against his detractors.

However, Agrawal has made it clear that he does not see the platform as a place to talk about the field of free speech.
In an interview with MIT Technology Review in 2020, Agrawal said companies that have been at the forefront of anger management in the United States since Trump’s ban should “create less” freedom of expression.
He said that “our responsibility is to provide a forum for public health and our actions reflect what we believe will lead to good public dialogue,” he said.
