The economies will develop in the next 20 years, and the infrastructure needs to match. It is of utmost importance for any developing country like India. We cannot really do any economic development without any infrastructure development. The government needs to rise to challenge. The whole point of infrastructure development is bringing the people together, link the states, cities and hamlets, create new things and ultimately create more wealth. The most important thing that is required to move forward on the path of the development is collaboration, between governments, private sector, construction organisations, development organisations etc.

In India, urbanization continues to accelerate. In response, the Indian government’s smart cities mission calls for a radical rethink of the ways it provides power, water and other critical infrastructure in 100 cities across the country. Infrastructure here plays a very vital role. Working with the aim of making her state one among the leading states in the country, and contributing to the development of the country, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Smt. Vasundhara Raje had started the Jaipur metro project. Metros are not new to India but were very new to the city beautiful Jaipur. When initially the announcements of the project of Jaipur Metro were made, there were several questions that were raised. People said that the construction work will harm the heritage of the city. Bashing all such doubt, CM Raje proved that not only has the Jaipur metro project connected the different parts of the city, but has also enhanced the heritage places of the city.

The Jaipur Metro Project, which was flagged by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje herself in June 2015, marked a significant step in making the ‘Pink City’ Jaipur, a smart city. Jaipur Metro project is a rapid transit system in the city of Jaipur. Construction on the mostly elevated part of the first line, called Phase 1A, comprising 9.63 kilometres (5.98 mi) of route from Mansarovar to Chandpole Bazaar was completed in 2014 under the leadership of CM Raje. After receiving safety clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in May 2015, Jaipur Metro began commercial service between Chandpole and Mansarovar on 3 June 2015 which was also inaugurated by CM Raje. The Jaipur Metro Rail system is India’s sixth metro rail system after those in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Gurgaon and Bangalore. It is also flaunted as one of the fastest built metro systems in India and is the first metro in India to run on Double-storey elevated road and Metro track.

During the Phase 1 of the Jaipur metro project, various hidden and concealed baoris (step wells) that were unknown by the government and the residents of the city were discovered. Various gau mukhs that were found have been preserved safely in the popular Albert hall museum. After the successful completion of Phase 1, immediately as per the directions by the CM Raje, the second Phase of the Jaipur metro project was started. So far so as promised, Jaipur metro has become a reliable and affordable system of public transport.  Jaipur metro was one of the most crucial steps that were taken in order to make Jaipur a smart city.
