Jaipur will very soon get the standing of being the first ‘Lighthouse City’ in South Asia, joining the league of Cisco Lighthouse Cities like Hamburg (Germany), Barcelona (Spain) and Adelaide (Australia) across the world.

The world is changing rapidly and in more multifaceted ways than ever before. Cities are facing histrionic social, economic and environmental challenges. To keep stride, cities are seeking more effectual ways to manage infrastructure and citizen processes on a thinner budget.

“The vision for smart cities offered by Cisco is of an integrated urban information and communication technology (ICT) overlay on a city that can support delivery of connected urban services and allow for efficient management of those services on a global scale. Cisco helps cities gather, share, understand and act on data from and with other agencies, from and with city residents and visitors, and from and with business and social organizations. By leveraging the Internet of Everything, cities can integrate people, processes, data and things to create safe and vital places to live, work, learn and play.”

With this development, Jaipur will gain access to Cisco’s enormous global network and channel program capabilities along with getting benefits from the economic and social transformation set to occur as the India embarks on the subsequent phase of the Digital India program. The Lighthouse City engagement will be empowered through a joint working group that will focus on deploying next generation technologies to impact citizens and society.

As competition between cities for talent, business, investment and tourism increases, city leaders see a growing role for technology to enable the development of communities that champion social, environmental and economic sustainability. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has chosen to develop smart city infrastructures that will improve the efficiency and quality of services offered to 3.5 million residents and over 40 million tourists who visit Jaipur every year.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said on the development, “It is a step towards realizing the vision of ‘Digital Rajasthan’. Cisco has chosen Jaipur because of the rapid transformation and modernization the city authorities have undertaken over the last couple of years and have actually implemented citizen centric solutions ahead of its time, across the city.”

Dinesh Malkani, President Cisco India and SAARC said, “Jaipur, as a Lighthouse City, will showcase to the world what’s possible when visionary city leaders and urban planners design and build 21st century cities connected by a digital infrastructure.”

Jaipur, known world-over as the standing memoir of the golden eras and rich history, has today become the talk for its modernity and pace towards technology embracing. Jaipur is also swiftly moving towards digitization of traffic control system. With the recent developments, it seems the day wouldn’t be far when we have a real Smart City in the form of Pink City.
