Kangana Ranaut is known for her bold and fearless statements and the fact that she always speaks her mind with or without anyone’s support from the film industry. Yet again, the actress has given a quite straightforward statement regarding Padmavati Controversy.
It’s quite a well-known thing now that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati has been encircled by controversies and protests across the country. Amidst the entire chaos, the leading lady Deepika Padukone also received brutal threats and derogatory remarks which left many infuriated.
Joining the battle in support of the makers and stars of Padmavati, veteran actress Shabana Azmi also expressed her anger towards the issue through a series of tweets. Not just this, she even initiated a petition addressed to PM Modi seeking Deepika’s safety. While many actresses signed the petition, actress Kangana refused to sign it. Here’s the statement of the actress:
“I was filming Manikarnika in Jodhpur, got a call from my dear friend Anushka Sharma to sign the petition written by Ms. Shabana Azmi, I explained to Anushka that Deepika Padukone has all my support but I am a bit wary of Shabana Azmi’s investment in left wing vs right wing politics. I have my own set of ideas and opinions about the current situation in our country. I am on the fence about many things and being a part of a feminist movement called ‘Deepika Bachao’ lead by someone who character assassinated me when I was bullied, seems to be one of them. Anushka understood but I am glad they reached out to me, like I said Deepika has all my support. I am individual perfectly capable of supporting who I like without anyone’s support.”
Well, it all started when Kangana’s controversial affair with Hrithik made the headlines. Everyone had different takes on the situation and many took different sides. Back then Shabana Azmi had come forward in support of Hrithik regarding the latter as a “true gentleman”. In fact, very few celebs had come forward in Kangana’s support.
In a way, it’s quite understandable as to why Kangana doesn’t want to sign the petition even though she supports Deepika. Although the equation between Kangana and Deepika has never been very friendly, it’s clear that two don’t share any sourness between the two ladies. Other actresses who have signed the petition include Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, and many others.
