Karnataka Court: Jayalalithaa’s 10,500 saris, 750 slippers, humongous diamonds in custody

Jayalalithaa's property and assets are disproportionate with her income sources revealed

Senior AIADMK leaders said they hoped the Supreme Court will pass its judgment soon and release the assets so that they could display them in a museum in her memory. The court verdict is expected in June 2017. “Since there is more than one accused in the case, the trial will continue,” said BV Acharya, special public prosecutor for Karnataka. He said the Karnataka government would file a memo in the Supreme Court on Jayalalitha’s death.

“If the court finds the accused guilty, the seized wealth will be confiscated and handed over to the Tamil Nadu government. If they are acquitted, it will be given to the rightful claimant from Tamil Nadu,” said A S Ponnanna , additional advocate general of Karnataka.

The assets, kept in the treasury , includes 21.28kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 crore, 1,250kg of silver articles worth Rs 3.12 crore, diamonds worth Rs 2 crore and a silver sword. “We can decide on them only after the SC gives its judgment,” said Ponnanna.

The seized assets include but is not just restricted to, 10,500 saris, 750 pairs of slippers and 500 wine glasses. These asstes have been kept in a room on the first floor of the City Civil Court. As the assets have to be guarded round the clock, four policemen are on duty for different time-slots.

Jewellery in humongous amounts were found at Jayalalitha’s residence.  Till the case is disposed, Jayalalitha’s jewellery will stay in state treasury till the case is disposed. Reportedly, jewellery of around Rs.6 Crore was found in the name of late CM.

The Court said, “If the court proceeds to dispose of the case without physically securing the properties, it is likely to give rise to an impression that the essential evidence produced before the court has not been looked into by the Court, therefore there can be no two opinions that the material objects marked in the case are absolutely necessary for fair decision in the case.”

The Court has adjourned further proceedings till December 21, or till the shifting of the valuables, whichever is later.

Despite the million dollar illegitimate possessions with the late CM, the love and blessings which has been showered onto her remains intact. Jayalalitha was a minister of People. She has been god for Tamil Nadu in its entirety. Facets of Globalisation and metropolitism had touched the state, under the leadership of Jaya.

People of Tamil Nadu  are indifferent to the case of  disproportionate assets, as the lady had bestowed her public with even more assets and resources for a comfortable lifestyle and better livelihood practices.

For the big visionary that Jaya was, people’s tremendous favouritism and exemplary fondness was inevitable.

As they say, people will forget what you did or said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Jaya touched people’s lives, Indeed!
