Australia would be the focus country of the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival, slated to be inaugurated by Bollywood’s living legend Amitabh Bachchan in the presence of a galaxy of superstars of Indian cinema including Shah Rukh Khan here on November 10, the organisers announced on Saturday.
Amitabh Bachchan will be launching the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival. The event will be graced by Shah Rukh Khan, Australian directors Simon Baker, Jaya Bachchan, Wahida Rehman, Nandita Das, Jill Bilcock, Sanjay Dutt and Philip Noyce as well.
The event is scheduled for November 10. The event will be presided over by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
What will happen at the festival is a showcase of 171 feature films, 150 shorts and documentaries. These films are from 70 countries and will play it in 16 auditoria.
The festival will be an eight-day long affair and will be launched with the 1967 Bengali classic ‘Antony Firingee’. This was chosen on purpose, so as to mark the 100 years of Bengali cinema. Another special element at the event is the screening of four Iranian film makers.
There will also be prizes for the best films at the event. The best film would be felicitated with an award of Rs 51 lakh, while the best director will get a prize money of Rs 21 lakh. Both the winners will receive a golden trophy christened “Royal Bengal Tiger”.
Amitabh Bachchan is a legend and is a seasoned actor of Bollywood. He is currently shooting for various films. His upcoming film is Thugs of Hindostan, which has created quite a stir in the entertainment industry. He is also occupied with the shooting of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Although he has turned old, he brings limitless energy to the shoot, and so is reflected in his work.
