Losar festival 2018: It is Tibetan New Year

Losar festival is also known as Tibetan New Year. This festival is celebrated on the first day of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar. This year, the festival will be celebrated from 16-18 February, 2018. Losar is one of the important festivals of Arunachal Pradesh. It is basically 15 days celebration but the first 3 days are the most important.

Monpas, a community in Arunachal Pradesh celebrates Losar festival. This community is involved in agriculture and animal husbandry. It is the festival to drink and enjoy. At the occasion of Losar, relatives and friends gather and enjoy festival in grand manner. This festival signifies arrival of good health, prosperity and peace. On this day, the words ‘Tashi Delek’ are used for people to greet one another.

To enjoy the festivities of Losar, people perform ritual of gratitude. The communities in Arunachal Pradesh made offerings to water spirits. This festival is celebrated with few ceremonies like struggle between evil and good. People performs dance of deer. There are also amusing battles. Apart from this, the lamas pass fire torches trough crowd. People go to monasteries and eat barley crumbed food with their families. Tibetans expect the arrival of good fortune on this festival.
