A male passenger looking to travel to Riyadh from Hyderabad was taken into custody at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad as he was boarding two bullets in his luggage. He was arrested while he was checking into the airport. The accused was identified as 30-year-old Alibeen Osman, a resident of old Palamur in Mahabubnagar district in Telangana.
He was entering the airport to board Emirates flight number EK – 527, when he was nabbed by the security officials from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). “We received a complaint from P Kumar Pathak, Senior Associate, HSB Screening at RGI Airport, stating that during the registered baggage screening, one live ammunition barrel and one used ammunition of 7.62 mm bore (324-99) were detected in his baggage. A case has been registered into this matter,” the police said.
After further investigation, it was found that he was not carrying the necessary arms & ammunition license to have this ammunition in his luggage. A case has been launched under the relevant sections of the Arms Act. The RGIA police revealed that he was remanded to judicial custody and additional details would be brought to light as soon as possible.
This type of incident has been brought to attention for the second time this year. In March, YSRCP MLA Y Sai Prasad Reddy was detained at the Hyderabad airport when live ammunition was found in his baggage.
The security staff at the airport found four 0.32mm bullets in the baggage of the Adoni legislator when he was about to board a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok. Detection of ammunition immediately raised an alarm.
However, the RGIA police after checking his luggage found out that the MLA had a valid license for the weapon till 2020, and after following due procedure, the legislator was let off.
