100-year-old, oldest female competitor at the Vancouver Senior Games, Man Kaur is an inspiration for all that India is proud of!

Who can imagine a 100 year old person participating in a 100 meters race at an international level? You would be wondering we are even asking a question that is not even possible? But pals, where on one hand we cannot even imagine this, there is Man Kaur, the Indian origin iron women made every individual proud on her when at the age of 100 she participated in a 100 metres race and completed it within a minute. Surprising? Isn’t it?

She represented India and became the senior most female competitor ever at the Vancouver Senior Games. Before we tell you anything more about this great lady we are immensely proud of, let us show you a video here, where she is seen running and even after her co-participants who were far younger in age ran past her, the audience continuously cheered for her in awe and respect.

The interesting and rather shocking thing to know here is that she during her childhood or adulthood had never participated in any sport activity or championship. She stated running when she was 93 and was already a proud great grandmother. Her son, Gurudev Singh has motivated to run and participate in such events. Gurudev himself is a 78 year old runner who has participated in various national and international championships and such competitions.

Man Kaur is an inspiration to everyone in this world and has proved that age is just a number. She was first motivated by his son in the year 2011 and in the same year she participated in the National Masters Athletics Championship held in Chandigarh and represented India in the World Masters Athletics Championship at Sacramento. She also took part in the 95+ category and won two gold medals in Sacramento. She created two new world records in her age category and was also declared Athlete of the Year and ever since, she has been participating in various national and international competitions.

Gurudev says, “When I came back home after participating in senior games and seeing elderly sportspersons from other countries, I thought my mother could participate too. My mother has always been a healthy, physically fit and energetic woman. When I told her this, she cheerfully accepted the new challenge and we soon hit the tracks to train.”

Gurudev says, “No insurance company has had the grit to offer my mother insurance coverage. But both my mother and I are spirited enough to travel several miles to participate in these competitions, so much so that we spend from our own pockets to participate in these games.”

Young, Old, are just words and 18, 32, 93, and 100 are just numbers.
