For First Time in Indian History, ex-PM Manmohan Speaks and PM Modi is Silent

Manmohan Vs. Modi

“Don’t underestimate the silence of a man. Silence is the beginning of a new revenge”

Manmohan Singh: A Man who proved he's not a 'Silencer' anymore.
Manmohan Singh: A Man who proved he’s not a ‘Silencer’ anymore.

Known as the ‘Silencer’ of India, Ex-PM Manmohan Singh had a bad reputation of keeping mum on important issues concerning the country. But, he’s no more silent now. November 24, a historic day in Indian history will be remembered for two unexpected happenings– Manmohan’s speech and Modi’s silence. In the Winter Session of Parliament today, we saw Manmohan speaking on implications of demonetisation.

Living up to his reputation of economic expert, when the former PM started with his speech on ‘How demonetisation will Effect Indian Economy in the long run’, he came down hard on PM Modi, effectively silencing the opposition with his crisp, to-the-point statements and sarcastic jabs.

Dr. Manmohan Singh’s speech reflected poor implementation of currency ban by RBI and Modi government.

Starting on a positive note, Singh agreed that Modi government’s efforts of curbing black money will prevent fake currency problems and terrorism funding in India. Terming it as ‘monumental mismanagement’, he pointed out at currency crunch that followed demonetisation. It is detrimental to India’s economy, which could shrink to 2% point due to market fluctuations. Though the government has demanded 50 days to normalize this situation, it’ll be a tough time for common man, especially the poor, everyday workers, thereby completing eroding their trust in government and banks. Last but not the least, it’s disastrous for Indian agriculture, especially since it’s the Rabi season. After putting up his points in front of the House, he requested the government to come up with pragmatic solutions to this problem.

This is how Manmohan effectively stole the show from BJP leaders in the Parliament today.
