Following the BJP’s victory in the Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats on Sunday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the government of committing “death of democracy.”
In Uttar Pradesh, where it is currently in power, the BJP captured seats that were thought to be the Samajwadi Party’s strongholds.
“The events leading up to the’murder of democracy’ during the BJP’s leadership include a plot to suppress candidates, suppress nominations, abuse of machinery to keep voters from casting ballots, errors in counting, pressure on public officials, and overthrow of elected governments. This is “Azadi ke Amrit Kaal’s” painful truth “Yadav stated in a string of Hindi tweets.
“This BJP win is the result of dishonesty, deceit, disdain for democracy and the constitution, coercion, hooliganism on the part of the government, the Election Commission’s “Dhritarashtra” vision, and the BJP’s “Kaurav” army’s appropriation of the popular mandate. The public mandate has been lost, and democracy is haemorrhaging “said he.
In a direct election in Rampur, which was held on Sunday after SP veteran Azam Khan was elected to the Uttar Pradesh assembly, BJP candidate Ghanshyam Lodhi easily defeated Samajwadi Party (SP) contender Mohd Asim Raja by a margin of 42,192 votes.
Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ of the BJP defeated Dharmendra Yadav of the SP by a margin of 8,679 votes in the Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency, which was formerly held by Akhilesh Yadav.
