Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival is back with its 16th edition. The event will take place from 4 to 7 January in Mylapore. The event will host about 40 events including heritage walks, competitions and cultural performances featuring more than 200 artists. The festival is held around space Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple.

This festival can also be called as the soul of Chennai (Madras). This Mylapore festival is held every year on the eve of the local harvest festival of Pongal every year in January. This festival began in year 2001 at a very small level. This festival was initially started to recreate the atmosphere from village festivals in city. This is a street cultural festival that showcases the heritage of Mylapore.

What are the highlights of Mylapore Festival?
At this fest, there will be ‘pulli kolam’ contests. There will be old and popular food joints in Mylapore. Apart from this, three heritage walks will also be held. People can enjoy a story-telling tour inside the Kapaleeswarar temple. In this fest, there is also held Kolam competition. Those who love to play traditional games have dayakattam and pallankuzhi. ‘. This year, there is a special addition i.e. Villupattu concert ‘Aamaam Podunga’.
