Kerala ‘God’s Own Country ’ has been into the worst situation as the state is suffering from worst floods of the century. Hundreds of people have injured, many have lost their homes and lives due to flood. Nearly 100 dams, reservoirs and rivers have overflowed. Situation is getting worsened with every passing day. North and central Kerala have been worst-hit by the floods. Today’s morning, PM Narendra Modi took an aerial survey in Kerala’s Kochi. Parts of highways collapsed, homes swept away and there are warnings of worse weather to come. Train services are disrupted while the international airport at Kochi shut down till 26 August. Hundreds of people have been sent to relief camps while thousands are still trapped. Due to torrential rain, power and communication lines are down.
42 navy, 16 army, 28 coast guard and 39 National Disaster Relief Force teams have been engaged in rescue operations. Another 14 NDRF teams are expected to join them shortly. 30 Military helicopters and 320 boats are busy in rescuing people across the state of Kerala.
On the flood situation, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan talked to PM Narendra Modi. He informed that Kerala has suffered a loss of Rs 19,515 crore as per initial assessment. For the relief measures in Kerala, the PM has announced an interim relief fund of Rs 500 crore. Previously, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijay anannounced relief of ₹ 100 crore on August 12. State government is busy in making all out efforts for the providing security and relief to the people.
