Navy’s warship topples in dock, two sailors killed, 14 injured

On Monday afternoon,the navy confronted an immensely disastrous blow. Two sailors had been killed and 14 personnel injured after the locally constructed warship. INS Betwa  tipped over to her zones through undocking on the naval dockyard in Mumbai.

While INS Betwa was commissioned in July 2004, a similar frigate packed with weapons and sensors would cost atleast a whopping sum of Rs.6,000 crore now.

It is believed that a multitude of factors have likely been responsible for the mishap. “The accident could have took place on account of elements like instability whereas flooding, miscalculation of the burden equilibrium, failure of the dock block mechanism, helping constructions now not being tightened or the frenzy of water in all places flooding,” mentioned an officer.

In February 2014, the then Navy chief Admiral D ok Joshi had owned “ethical accountability” andpre-empted after a seriesof naval accidents,specifically the two on board submarines — INS Sindhurakshak and INS Sindhuratna — that had killed 5 officers and 15 sailors.

The Navy ordered a board of inquiry into the accident. Meanwhile, the Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba headed for Mumbai.

The situation is likely to settle soon,with the ongoing efforts to ease out the menace caused.
