New Norm Will Allow Students To Apply Re-evaluation of ICSE Answer Sheet Without Any Fee

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has been brought under the range of thought of RTI Act by the Central Information Commission (CIC). This came into existence after a request for showing the ICSE answer sheets for six subjects was not entertained so well. the student’s name is Kaushik and feeling dubious about his marks, his father asked for rechecking of Kaushik’s answer papers. To his dismay, the CISCE norms says that the applier has to pay the fee of Rs. 4,000 for conducting the rechecking.

But, the rules have changed and under this students can freely ask for answer book copies and ask for re-evaluation also. According to the new order, the board explains that, “An examining body like CISCE might have an intellectual property right over the question paper, but they do not have any such rights over answer sheets of students”. They also talked about the consequences of unfair evaluation of students answer sheets and that they must not suffer because of the groundless rules of the board imposed on student answer sheets.

The order promptly mentions that, “Without sharing evaluated answer sheets, the board cannot assure justice to students who, at times, might be victims of unreasonable evaluation. It is not proper on the part of this prestigious council to leave students remedy-less in such situations of injustice”.

As CICSE is not a public authority, CIC order states that, “The issue is not whether it is a public authority but whether it should be accountable or not”. Earlier also, SC directed the CBSE to make available the answer sheets with students who want to re-evaluate them.

On one hand where the order will bring great relief to the students who feel like revaluating their answer sheets, on the other hand it may bring big burden on the board as the number of revaluations will double up.
