It’s Official, MS Dhoni Recommended For Padma Bhushan Award

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has recommended by The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) for the country’s 3rd highest civilian award – Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the game.”Yes, it’s confirmed, we have recommended Dhoni’s name for the Padma Bhushan,” BCCI Acting President C.K. Khanna told IANS on Wednesday.

The BCCI, however, has not sent any other name for this year’s Padma awards. It was a unanimous decision to nominate India’s most successful captain. It should be noted that Dhoni is already a recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Padma Shri Award and if the wicketkeeper-batsman is conferred with the Padma Bhushan, he will become only the 11th Indian cricketer to get the third highest civilian honor

Former captains Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid and Chandu Borde have received the award earlier. 

Dhoni Deserves This

Dhoni, who made his international debut in ODI series against Bangladesh in 2004, has notched up 9,737 runs in 302 ODIs besides amassing 4,876 runs in 90 Tests.

He is the most successful captain for the Indian cricket team. He has led the team to two World Cup titles, the World Twenty20 in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011.

Ranchi Star MS Dhoni also led India to the top of the ICC Test rankings in December 2009. he is the only captain to win all three major ICC tournaments the 50-over World Cup, the Champions Trophy and the World T20.
