Driver partners of Uber and Ola drivers are on strike across the country from today. This will result in higher prices due to the shortage of cabs. Users will also suffer on the account of the waiting period as this will also go up significantly.
This strike is organized by Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena. It is also said that the protest could go on indefinitely if their demands are not met. The strike is started largely in Mumbai. This protest will affect the business of big cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata too.
The strike is broke out as of these drivers have seen setback over the years due to the ‘mismanagement’ of these companies. These drivers are demanding that the cab-hailing giants should ensure them business. The companies had promised them business in beginning but now cab drivers are not being able to cover the costs. Cab drivers have invested Rs 5-7 lakh and a return of Rs 1.5 lakh/month was expected but the situation is totally different.\
There is aggression as priority has been given to company-owned cars rather than driver-owned vehicles. There is dissatisfaction between the drivers as banks are seizing their vehicles. These drivers are not able to pay back their loan amount.
This is not the first time the strike broke out. Drivers also conducted major protests last year as revenues were decreasing.
