OnePlus, Foxconn Have Announced To Start Their Mobile Assembling Unit In India

OnePlus to make phones in Andhra Pradesh

Oneplus the Chinese tech startup joins hand with Foxconn. They have partnered with Indian company in line of recent announcement of assembling OnePlus Smartphones in India. This will boost ‘Make In India’ initiative of Government. The unit is expected to be established at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh as per media reports published this morning.

During the announcement Pete Lau CEO of OnePlus also mentioned that company has sold over 2.5 lakh units of OnePlus One in India, along with this has also sold 15000 units of OnePlus Two in just 12 minutes of its listing on a leading e-commerce portal held today. He also extended gratitude towards Andhra Government and Indian partner Foxconn.

Vikas Agrawal, General Manager – India for OnePlus said “Since OnePlus debut in Indian market, company has been flooded with requests to buy our product, which has more than 5 million entries worldwide for latest release OnePlus Two alone. Even after putting best of efforts in meeting demand of Indian market, few supply chain related challenges remained constraints in meeting demand. Localization of production would help us address those issues and cater the fast growing demand of OnePlus Two”.

Foxconn is already a manufacturer of Xiaomi, InFocus, Oppo and Gionee Smartphone; with this new partnership it will provide direct employment to no less than 1000 full time workers. The production of OnePlus devices are expected to be done by the end of this year at the 30000 sq ft facility of Foxconn in Andhra Pradesh.

The first batch of local production would be out in the local market for purchase by the end of 2015. The facility at Foxconn is capable of ensuring production of 50000 units per month, which will be flexible enough to fulfill local demand.
