Oscars 2019: Village Rockstars is India’s official entry for Academy Awards

The time for Academy Awards nominations the Best Foreign Language Film category has come. Oscars 2019 will soon announce the final contenders in this category. Talking about India’s official nomination for Oscars, Assamese film ‘Village Rockstar’ is the final entry for Academy awards. Reportedly, approximately 28 films have been considered for Oscars 2019 but ‘Village Rockstar’ won the race. The chairman of the committee S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, also a veteran film producer, made the announcement. Know more.

Films like Raazi, Padmaavat, Love Sonia’, ‘Pihu’,‘102 Not Out’, October and Manto etc were in race. Apart from Hindi cinema, the movies from other regional languages were considered for the awards. It included Assamese film ‘Village Rockstar’, Marathi film ‘Nude’, Bogda’, Tamil Film ‘To Let’ and ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ among others.

For the last Oscars, Rajkummar Rao starrer Newton had become India’s nomination but unfortunately failed to make it up to the final nominations list.

Village Rockstars is the story of a 10-year-old girl who dreams of forming his own band and playing guitar. The movie also won a national award in the ‘best feature film’ category and won many accolades across the globe. Film director Rima Das has happily accepted this news and shared her gratitude on Twitter.
