PadMan Trailer Starring Akshay Kumar as India’s Sanitary Superhero is something you just can’t miss

The PadMan trailer has been released and there is so much to talk about it. Not just Akshay Kumar’s role but the subject matter of the film is totally unseen and unheard of. After portraying patriotic and socially responsible citizen in movies like Airlift and Toilet, Akshay is yet again here to convey a strong, social message about female hygiene.
The actor shared the trailer on his official Twitter handle:

As the name itself indicates, Padman is about menstruation and the way people deal with the subject. It is based on the real life of Mr. Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who introduced world’s first low-cost machines for making sanitary napkins.

Mr. Arunachalam, who is actually known as Padman in real life, has an inspiring tale that everyone must know. In an interview with BBC, Twinkle Khanna talked about the efforts of the man while he was devising the machine.
Since no woman was ready to try it, the man put it on himself and with a plastic bag full of blood, tried the napkin while cycling to check the efficiency of the pad. Today, many NGOs and associations are using these pads for young girls who were earlier unable to afford pads because of the high price.

The trailer shows a man named Lakshmikant Chauhan (Akshay Kumar) who is quite worried about the female hygiene and wants to provide his wife Gayatri (Radhika Apte) a hygienic life but he faces a lot of objection from his own family. Treating menstruation as a taboo, which we all are familiar about; women are ashamed to just talk about it.

Fighting against the odds, Lakshmikant with the help of Rhea (Sonam Kapoor) struggles through the process not to just make a low-cost machine but he also makes young girls aware of the issue. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is the narrator and also has a cameo in the film.

Produced by Twinkle Khanna and directed by R.Balki, this movie is a reminder to talk about things that we never do. It’s a socially strong and educational film which aims to inform the audience about menstruation with a pinch of comedy. The film will release on 26th January 2018 in the theatres.
