Since the vaccination programme for teens aged 15 to 18 years old began in India, there has been considerable uncertainty over whether or not they need to take paracetamol or another pain reliever to cope with the adverse effects. To clear the air, specialists claim that the Covid jab does not require any medication.

“We have received reports that certain vaccination centres are advocating taking three paracetamol 500 mg pills together with Covaxin for youngsters,” Bharat Biotech, the vaccine’s maker, stated in an official statement. After receiving the Covaxin vaccine, no paracetamol or pain relievers are recommended.”

“Paracetamol was suggested with certain other Covid-19 vaccinations, but not with Covaxin,” the statement continued.

Beneficiaries between the ages of 15 and 18 would only be given Covaxin, according to amended vaccination recommendations issued by the Government of India’s Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

According to the manufacturer, around 10-20% of participants in its clinical studies involving 30,000 people had negative effects. “The majority of these are minor, go away in 1-2 days, and don’t require treatment.” It stated that “medication is only indicated after consulting with a physician.”

Experts believe that minor fever, chills, headache, or weariness following the Covid-19 vaccination dosage indicates that the immune system is starting to kick ineffectively, and that painkillers should be avoided to ensure the “strongest possible immune response.”

Any medicine after immunisation is not suggested, according to Dr. Col Vijay Dutta, senior consultant, Internal Medicine, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, because it has the “potential to cause hepatotoxicity.” “It is not suggested to give paracetamol to children (15-18 years old) who are receiving Covid vaccinations. It’s because it has the potential to harm the liver (liver damage caused by drug exposure). If a kid develops a fever after getting the Covid vaccine, Mefenamic acid or Meftal syrup should be administered. Adults over the age of 18 who develop a fever after receiving the Covid vaccine can take paracetamol safely, according to Dr. Dutta.
