What Is Paradise Paper: Biggest Data Leaks: 714 Indians Named

In the Paradise Paper leak case, names of people from many countries have come which include politicians, film artists, industrialists, celebrities, and dynasties, so what is this? 

What Is Paradise Paper?

After 18 months of Panama Paper leak, another secret financial data has been leaked by the International Consortium Of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).  The data which shows how big companies and rich individuals moved money to and from 19 tax havens to evade taxes was initially obtained by German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung.

This secret financial data leak, called the Paradise Papers, contains 13.4 million documents from two leading firms. Primarily data leaked from Bermuda firm Appleby as well as from Singapore based Asiaciti. India ranks 19th out of 180 countries in terms of number of names in data leak, total 714 Indians have been named, The Indian Express reported. News outlets worldwide partnered International Consortium of Investigative Journalists(ICIJ) to bring out the story.    

So What Is Interesting About This

This Data leak revealed names of famous personalities like Queen Elizabeth II, American singer Madonna and as we know there are 714 Indian names which include Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata, Union Minister Jayant Sinha and corporate Niira Radia are in the fresh set of data leaks showing alleged offshore dealings.

On the leaks, Appleby said, “it was satisfied that there is no evidence of any wrong doing, either on the part of ourselves or our clients, We do not tolerate illegal behavior.”

This was not the first time when this type of financial data leaks the first was done in April 2013 in which 612 Indians were named who incorporated with the British Virgin Islands. The second was followed by Swiss Leaks which leaked from HSBC included 1,195 Indian account holders, the third was “Panama Papers” was came last year in April and now there is “Paradise Paper”.
