Kullu: Dussehra

During this season you will find locals of Kullu carrying idols of God and Goddess over their head, in form of procession to a ground where they meet God, Raghunath. Don’t get confused with this ritual, as it is their way of celebrating Dusshera. The festivity continues for seven long days and concludes at River beas, where piles of wood is burnt replicating death of Ravana. Delhi, Ramleela

Dusshera in Delhi is the most dramatic and entertaining forms of the festival. After the nine days of worship and fasting, celebration end with a noisy fireworks display as the outrageous effigies of Ravana and Kumbhkaran and Meghnath are set on fire. Sky of national capital is filled with crackers as the effigies explode, along with the sounds of cheering crowds in public parks. Catch a Ramleela show, the theatrical depiction of the eternal good defeats evil story.
