PM Modi on “Hugplomacy”; Don’t know protocols

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trolled for warm hugs to the international leaders. He said that he was unaware of laid down protocols. He is a common man. He appreciates himself for being a common man and this has become his strength.

A video is posted on Twitter handle with a hashtag `#hugplomacy` in which opposition party Congress mocked PM Modi’s hug. The video was issued after PM’s Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu came to India. After this video out is out, BJP that slammed it as “immature” and demanded an apology.

What PM Modi said on this?
In an interview PM Modi said, “Had I been trained like others…I too would have followed those protocols of looking right and left, had shaken hands. But I am an ordinary person…I only try to ensure that no harm ever happens to my country (due to this).”

He further added, “When I became the prime minister, there was criticism that Modi neither knows nor understands anything which is outside Gujarat….”

PM also added that he was also asked that how he would conduct his foreign policy. He said that criticism was right because he did not have any experience. That’s why he got the benefit of not having experience.

Asked how he feels when he stands next to world leaders, he said, “My only feeling is that it is not Narendra Modi who is standing there but the representative of 1.25 billion people.”
