When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Red Fort for the unveiling of National flag, he was welcomed by the crowd with a huge roar. This huge roar was directly connected to the achievements the new Modi government has established in the past 75 days. In his speech, PM announced a social charter for the coming future which included worrying signs over the population explosion, water conservation and the biggest of them all, announcement of appointing a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). This appointment of CDS was pending for two decades since the Kargil War.

This speech of Mr. Modi was eagerly anticipated by all the people because of two major announcements. First of which was the announcement of the appointment of Chief of Defence Staff, a demand that was made after a review on the conduction of the Kargil War during the time period of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.

The second major announcement that was anticipated was the formation of Jal Jeevan Mission for water conservation and successful revival of water bodies that have been running out of water in recent times. This project has been allocated with an amount of 3.5 lakh crores because of the seriousness of the issue. “Just as I called upon the country to join the Swachchta Mission to make India Open Defecation Free, I ask that you join the Jal Jeevan Mission which cannot succeed unless people participate on a mass level,” he said.

On the heated topic of removal of the special status of Jammu & Kashmir, he stated that his government are not looking to increase the number of problems among the people but instead are looking to take the best steps in order to solve them. “India is asking those who supported Article 370 if this was so important and life-changing, why was this Article not made permanent? After all, those people had large mandates and could have removed the temporary status of Article 370,” he said. “Now we can say with pride, One Nation, One Constitution,” he added.
