Narendra Modi is in Chennnai to participate in the platinum jubilee celebrations of Tamil newspaper Daily Thanthi. The Prime Minister also met DMK President M Karunanidhi as per sources. The two leaders were to meet at Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence at 12:30 pm confirmed DMK sources.
It was confirmed by the tweet of BJP national general secretary P Mualidhar Rao. It said,”During his visit to Tamil Nadu today, PM Sh Narendra Modiji will visit senior-most leader from the state and former CM M Karunanidhi.”
Other event to be attended by Sh. Narendra Modi in Chennai is wedding of the daughter of Dr TV Somanathan, a senior official in the PMO, at Raja Annamalaipuram.
PM meets Karunanidhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Mr Karunanidhi who is recovering from a long illness. Karunanidhi is the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). At the residence of Mr Karunanidhi, PM stayed for some time residence for about 20 minutes and also met his family. Today’s meeting of PM Narendra Modi with Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK has no political intention. It is a general meet.
Karunanidhi fell ill in October, 2016 and hospitalized due to a throat and lung infection. He also had undergone a tracheostomy to help him breathe better. Since then Mr Karunanidhi didn’t come in public. He is 93 years old. After his long illness, he gave his first public appearance recently this year.
