PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation of 23,000 crore Purvanchal Expressway project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on two-day tour of eastern Uttar Pradesh beginning from today. He will lay the foundation stone of Rs 23,000 crore Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh. It is 340-km long Expressway. During this 2-day tour, he will also visit Varanasi and Mirzapur. He will inaugurate several development projects and hold rallies in three of the cities of eastern UP. Know what he will work in these cities.

Works to be done in Azamgarh
In Azamgarh, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the 340-km long Poorvanchal Expressway. The road will connect several towns of eastern UP with Lucknow and Delhi. This expressway will be constructed in three years.

Works to be done in Varanasi
Talking about Varanasi, the PM will lay the foundation stone of important projects like Varanasi City Gas Distribution Project and the Varanasi-Ballia EMU train. Apart from these, he will lay the foundation stone for an International Convention Centre and Panchkoshi Parikrama Marg. In fact, the foundation stone for several projects will be laid under the Smart City Mission and Namami Gange. These projects cumulatively cost more than Rs 900 crore.

A book titled “Meri Kashi” will be released by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, will release a in the presence of PM Modi.

Works to be done in Mirzapur
On Sunday, PM Modi will reach Mirzapur where he will dedicate the Bansagar Canal to the nation. Here, PM will lay the foundation stone of the Mirzapur Medical College and inaugurate 108 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in UP. During the visit, a bridge over Ganga at Balughat, Chunar will be dedicated. This bridge will connect Mirzapur to Varanasi.

Purvanchal Expressway project: BJP vs SP
This project has caused a war of words between the ruling BJP and opposition Samajwadi Party. SP claims that the project is the brainchild of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Akhlilesh Yadav had laid a foundation stone for the same stretch in December 2016. In fact, a demonstartion had been staged by SP workers at the Azamgarh district collectorate yesterday against the planned launch of the project.

Purvanchal Expressway
Purvanchal Expressway is eight lanes that will provide a smooth ride between Lucknow and Ghazipur in eastern UP. This will link nine districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh i.e. Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur and Varanasi directly with Lucknow and Delhi. This expressway will also be linked with 165-km-long Yamuna Expressway from Agra to Delhi and the 302-km-long Lucknow-Agra Expressway. The project costs Rs 23,000 crore and will take 36 months to be completed.
