Political Crisis in Arunachal Pradesh likely to end sooner than later

The announcement of Pema’s suspension was made quite unceremoniously. Pema Khandu and 6 others were suspended from the party on grounds which are considered reasonable for removal.

Quite recently, Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) suspended it’s representatives by leveling anti-party allegations on the partymen.

On Saturday night, Chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and five other party MLAs were temporarily suspended from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect. Pema is accused of performing anti-party activities. The five other MLAs are Jambey Tashi (Lumla), Passang Dorjee Sona (Mechuka), Chow Tewa Mein (Chowkham), Zingnu Namchom (Namsai) and Kamlung Mossang (Miao).

Takam Tagar (Pario), has been elected as the new Chief Minister to replace the ousted. Tagar is an MLA from Palin and the opulent legislator from the state.

Deploying the powers vested in by the Constitution, Kahfa Bengia, the PPA President tendered a order, in combination with the resolution adopted in the state executive committee meeting held on 20 December.

Bengia said he was convinced that the suspended were indulged in gross “anti-party” activities. He said his belief was substantiated by validated evidences.

Apart from stating the allegations, the order also stated that with the suspension, Khandu ceased to be the leader of the PPA Legislature Party.

He also urged all party MLAs and PPA functionaries to avoid attending any meetings hosted by Khandu. He also affirmed that those who will not comply with the directives are likely to confront serious disciplinary actions of the party. Bengia then requested the Speaker to communicate the announcements to the Governor.
