E-commerce sites and retail stores are offering deep discounts on electronic products like refrigerators, air-conditioners, television sets, washing machines amongst other range of electronic products. Therefore this time is no less merrier for the customers who are enjoying Diwali bonanza before it has arrived.

The companies are offering discounts of up to 40% on the back of expected GST rollout on July 1 and a myriad of other reasons listed below:

• The most important reason for these showering discounts is that on selling unsold goods, retailers are likely to make a loss of about 6%. Moreover, due to various apprehensions about GST aftermath, many retailers including e-commerce companies have announced big discounts on these goods. In a bid to clear inventory, the companies are giving maximum savings for the customers.
• The electronic companies are likely to face mild turbulence post GST due to the surge in electronic prices by upto 5%. As a matter of fact, electronics falling under the 28% tax slab engulfs maximum electronics as against the 23% rate which is currently prevalent.
• The input tax credit limit will increase after GST. Retailers which will buy after GST rollout will receive the benefit of increased Input tax credit, hence, the move. Additionally, goods priced over Rs 25000 are eligible for 100% input tax credit. This is another big motivator for the retailers to offer such massive discounts.
• Not only retailers but also manufacturers like Videocon, LG and Samsung have also devised strong promotional offers to clear out their inventory. Considering the massive operations in a country like India, the company’s major sales depend on the economic and social changes. Keeping this in mind, ignoring GST aftermath will be a fool’s job.
