Out of one lieutenant-governor and three governors selected by the President Pranab Mukherjee, assembly elections are outstanding in two states, in Manipur and Punjab.

V.P Singh Badnore, who comes from Rajasthan was a member of both the state assembly and Parliament, and has been associated with BJP since the days of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS). After being an element of Legislative Assembly for 4 consecutive terms, Badnore finally became a Member of Parliament (MP) in the year 1999.
