Priyanka Chopra speaks about Women empowerment at UN Global Goals Awards

Priyanka Chopra recently spoke about women empowerment at the UN Global Goals Awards at New York City. After walking the red carpet at 69th Emmy Awards, she headed straight to attend the UN Global Goals Awards. At UN Global Goals Awards, she addressed the global leaders, philanthropy, media, non-profits and business people.

She urged everyone to come together and work to empower, educate and create opportunities for young girls and children. She found it a proud moment to speak on such a noble cause. Undoubtedly, women empowerment is the need of the time.

On her social media account, Priyanka wrote, “In the words of Mahatma Gandhi… ‘If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.’

She further mentioned in her post,” We all need to come together and work to empower, educate, create opportunities and impart skill sets so that we can be their catalysts for change and to help them build their brave new world. If possible, a safe one where they can live their dreams and laugh together as one.”

Through her Instagram post, she also mentioned importance of such awards as these awards play important role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

At this event, she met the youngest ambassador for UNICEF named Muzoon Almellehan. Muzoon Almellehan is also known as The Syrian Malala. Priyanka was proud to this young girl and appreciated her for her ‘amazing’ work. Muzoon is working for education of Syrian girls. She mentioned this through her post on Instagram.

At the awards ceremony, Priyanka presented the Leadership Award to an Indian girl Ria Sharma. Ria Sharma is founder of who is the founder of Make Love Not Scars organization. This organization works for the acid attack survivors. Ria is awarded for her contribution towards acid attack survivors. Her organization make sure that acid attacks survivors get free treatment under Supreme Court order for the welfare of acid victims passed in April 2015.
For this event, she chose white fitted gown hugged her curves and featured an elegant slit that only came up to her knee. She was looking terrific in the outfit. She is a former miss universe, Bollywood as well as Hollywood star and now goodwill ambassador for UNICEF.

Earlier this month, Priyanka was in Jordan to help and educate the Syrian children under UNICEF’s initiative. Priyanka Chopra also met a lot of refugee kids in Za’atari camp.
