Projects in Rae Bareilly and Amethi are being shut down– Congress

The game of blames and counter blames are being played by both the ruling party and the opposition. This time, Congress is accusing Modi Government of closing down all the central projects in Rae Bareilly and Amethi. Both the regions are the Lok Sabha constituencies of Congress Chiefs, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi respectively.

Such charges are being denied straight away by the Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in the Rajya Sabha. During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress won these two seats and BJP won 73 out of the total 80 seats of the state.

The issue was raised in the Zero Hour by Pramod Tiwari (Cong) by stating that a branch of Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Information in Amethi has been closed down. He further added that the last two years saw the close down of a food park project, Hindustan Paper Mill in Jagdishpur along with a discovery park for farmers.

As quoted, Tiwari said, “This is the worst form of politics. By shutting down projects in the constituency of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party’s Vice President Rahul Gandhi, you are taking revenge against people who elected them”. The allegations of Tiwari were focused on the tagline of BJP “Congress Mukt Bharat” and accused them of closing down all the institutions whose names are attached to the Gandhi Family like, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

He added, “You may try hard, but you cannot remove references to their sacrifices from history. When history will be read, you will appear as the villain”.

The other Congress leader, Rajiv Shukla was found supporting Tiwari and said that BJP wad doing the politics with a sense of revenge as Smriti Irani has lost the Amethi seat against Rahul Gandhi.

The leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “In last two years if so many central projects were closed down in the constituency of Congress President and Vice President, it forces us to think what the reason is”.

“There could be political differences between the parties but there is no point in doing such revengeful politics. No one should act with a vendetta against the people,” he added.

In response to the charges, Naidu said that “I can assure the House that there is no question of taking revenge” and the Government is always stepping towards constructive politics rather than destructive politics.

He explained that the Food Park was closed in the UPA rule itself and as far as the other projects are concerned, he would get in touch with the related Ministers and “will ask them to explain to you the reasons and the background”.
