4K resolution and HDR capability have raised the performance of play station units this time. Concurrently, the arrival of PlayStation 4 Pro, PS4 VR headset and PlayStation 4 Slim has enhanced anticipation among game enthusiasts. To top it, Sony has announced smashing games like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last of Us Remastered, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, etc. that promise quality entertainment for gamers. For those who don’t know, Ps4 pro price is Rs 38,990 and PS4 VR (with headset and camera) costs Rs 41,990  But, amidst all this, how can we forget our very old Xbox One S?

Over the years, both Microsoft and Sony have raised the standards of console gaming by introducing Xbox and PS machines that gloriously stream 4K content. But then, this is where the similarities end. While PS4 supports 4K, high-resolution gaming, Xbox One S can’t support console gaming at the highest resolution. When it comes to a plethora of features, gaming and value focused bundles, XBox One S provides more options than PS4 Pro.

Which is better, Ps4 or Xbox S is probably the toughest questions for the hardcore gamers. To answer it, we’ve pit both the gaming giants against each other in a 5-point battle to see which one of them fares well.

Ps4 vs. Xbox One S: Features, Specifications and Benefits

  1. Hardware and Design

PlayStation 4 Pro is taller and bulkier than its predecessor, weighing about 7 pounds and having dimensions– 15.6×11.6×2.6 inches. But, Sony has ditched the previous ‘black plastic’ for ‘glossy, textured, matte’ body.

On the other hand, XBox One S shed the extra weight. It now weighs 6.4 pounds, having dimensions– 11.6×9.1×2.5 inches. Microsoft launched a striking white, all-matte frame this time.

  1. Graphics

Graphics play a significant role in defining your game experience. If you play in full HD mode, the divisions between on-screen objects will be much smoother. This determines the popularity of a gaming console.

A smart combination of efficient GPU and AMD processor enables full HD resolution in PS4’s case. While it can seamlessly stream Netflix and Hulu content in 4K, it fails to play UHD Blu-Ray content. To make up for this loss, Sony lets you play in HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode. This explains the logic behind vibrant colours and sharp edges.

Compared to it, One S may stream UHD, 4K Blu-ray DVD and a few selected games in HDR mode, but it can’t run titles in 4K. Though One S upscale games, there’s no visual fidelity enhancement.

  1. Performance

The performance of a gaming console determines visual appeal and gaming experience.

In this regard, Xbox One S is pretty much same as its predecessor, with slight differences. The device retained the 1.75-GHz AMD processor but improved the TFLOPs from 1.31 to 1.4. Further, the Power boost is responsible for its extra 7 to 11% performance gain.

Whereas, PS4 Pro is certainly better performance-wise. With substantial boosts, it emerged twice as powerful as previous play station units. It boasts powerful AMD processors, 2.1 GHz CPU and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM bandwidth for raw gaming. Moreover, the new graphic chips based on Polaris architecture give life to Radeon RX 480 PC graphics card, thereby raising the TFLOPs from 1.84 to 4.2.

Speaking in a layman’s term, the PS4 delivers the highest level of efficiency and raw power, when it comes to non-stop gaming.

  1. Interface

Xbox’s big, colourful Windows 10-powered titles and ‘Snap function’ enabling multi-tasking on multiple windows makes One S more appealing than Ps4. Xbox gamers can double-tap the Home Button and choose Game DVR option to record clips for sharing or you can simply ask Cortana to do that.

In terms of sharing PS4 offers a better experience. It can stream YouTube content, broadcast games to Twitch, share screenshots on Twitter and Facebook and owns a DualShock 4 Share button to record or broadcast screenshots and gameplay. But, both Xbox One S and PlayStation 4 Pro offers all players remote play options.

Secondly, Xbox players can stream games on Windows 10 laptops and tablets whereas Ps4 games can stream media on Xperia devices.

  1. Virtual Reality

PS VR allows gamers to experience high-end games like Resident Evil 7 and Batman: Arkham VR in a 360-degree environment with binaural audio. It’s also compatible with headsets. Microsoft, on the other hand, is mum on its VR strategy, but they’re probably going to launch it in their upcoming products– Project Scorpio Console.

If we analyse their performance on other grounds, the results are–
