Maharashtra Police encountered a surprising situation when an alleged serial killer sent a congratulatory note to the Pune police of Satara district of Maharashtra on cracking a case alleging him as the main convict in a series of killings. The note was sent by the alleged killer himself on Thursday and it came as a wonder to the Satara Police. The convict is identified as Doctor Santosh Pol, who was arrested for killing minimum of 6 people from 2003 to 2016. The above-mentioned note is said to be a handwritten note addressed to the Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil.

The convict’s Doctor Degree is still arguable but it is clear that he practiced as a doctor. In his note to Sandip Patil, he congratulated Patil for catching him and clarified that, “If you ask me why I am doing all this, then the question should be asked of the corrupt officials from the (police) department and the dormant society between 2003 and 2016.” Pol claimed the case to be cracked by a police inspector from the local crime branch and the in-charge officer of Wai police station.

SP Sandip Patil said, “It shows how he is trying to be over-smart and how deceitful he is,” assuming that Pol might be wanting to question the Police Officers and say that they are corrupt. He apparently wanted to blame them for not solving the case till now. The local media renamed him as ‘Dr. Death’. According to the police, Pol has confessed all the murders during his interrogation.

As per the sources, Pol was also engaged in activities like trapping the police officers and getting them caught in the anti-corruption bureau’s ploys. He also used to blackmail the police officers with their video recordings. According to a police officer, the department used to stay away from him because of the nuisances he created for the officers. Following are some of the murders he confessed:

  • Killed Surekha Chikane on May 20, 2003;
  • Murdered Vanita Gaikwad on August 12, 2006;
  • Killed Jagabai Pol on August 13, 2010;
  • A jeweler, Nathamal Bhandari, was killed on December 7, 2015;
  • Murdered Salma Shaikh, on January 17, 2016; and
  • On June 16, 2016, he killed Mangala Jedhe.

It is reported that it is because of the disappearance of Mangala Jedhe, that the police caught him. Police also revealed that the motive behind the murders was to rob them or to cover up the previous killings. Anyone, who could spill the beans about the earlier murders, was also targeted by Pol.
