According to the new rule, Rajasthan teachers will now be promoted on the basis of their students’ academic performance. Not just promotions but even their transfers are dependent on how their students perform good or bad. Teachers will be given to choose their next station basically on the criteria stating how many of their students have passed with excellent marks or how many of them got selected in STSE/NTSE exams.

Until now the state had no such policy, and all the teachers used to ask for written recommendations and from parliamentarians and legislators to get postings of their choice. The whole process was known as “MLA/MP’s desire”.

An anonymous senior government officer stated, “The transfer policy will put an end to the mad race for getting ‘MLA/MP/minister’s desire’ to get posting of choice. The existing system breeds corrupt practices where the teachers end up paying lakhs of rupees in bribes to middlemen for even getting ‘desire letters’ from the lawmakers,”

One of the relevant drafts of this upcoming policy states that, the teachers will be evaluated on the basis of their students’ results in past five years and those who produce results between 90% and 100% will only be given preference in transfers at desired places.

The evaluation of teachers in upper primary and senior secondary will be performed on the basis of Class VIII, X and XII exams. For primary classes, the evaluation will be done on the basis of a projected Class V district-level exam. For those teachers who are not teaching Classes V, VIII, X and XII, the education branch was still to work out a method to assess the education levels of students so that the teachers’ performance could be calculated.

On duty officials said that teachers eyeing transfers will now have to work harder, which in turn will advance the wisdom levels of students and the overall results of government schools. This policy will benefit both the parties equally and is great of education of the state and the country as a whole.
