Rajasthan Government Allows CBI Probe into Anandpal & Surendra Singh's Death, Elated Rajputs Withdraw Protests

Twenty-five days since Anandpal Singh’s death in a police crossfire, Rajasthan government finally agreed to CBI investigation over the gangster’s death. They also recommended a probe into Surendra Singh’s case. Surendra died in a police firing during Anandpal’s condolence meet in Sanvrad last week. The Ravna Rajput community, coaxed by the government, agreed to withdraw their protests. The decision came soon after a 3-hour-long parley between Rajput representatives and Rajasthan cabinet ministers yesterday. The decision was welcomed by Rajput Karni Sena patron Lokendra Singh Kalvi and self-styled ‘Jan’ leaders like Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

According to home minister Gulabchand Kataria, the police will register two FIRs, one in Sanvarad and another in Ratangarh. The government will recommend these cases to CBI for further action.

Surendra Singh, the victim of Sanvarad violence, was a guard at Bhagatpura’s Shree Cement plant in Pali district. The only son of his parents, Surendra had gone to attend Anandpal Singh’s funeral on April 24, on the appeal of Rajput leaders. He became a victim of vicious caste politics.

Initially, a few notorious elements blamed the police for allegedly killing the victim since he was a witness in Anandpal’s case. After Churu superintendent of police had cleared the air, the displeased villagers pinned his death on Rajput leaders and social media users. Guman Singh, a native of Singh’s village expressed his sadness on this issue. “What was need for him to visit Sanvarad. He was happily earning for his family having a salary of nearly Rs 15,000. He must have gone to show solidarity for his community. He was not aware of what was right or wrong,” said Guman. (Source: TOI, Rajasthan)

During this discussion, the government also cleared that Shravan Singh (owner of the house where Anandpal died) was not under observation anymore. The representatives of Rajasthan government assured help to commando Sohan Singh, who sustained fatal injuries in the crossfire.
