Promotion for Rajasthan Lecturers & Professors: The Happiness Spreads Across the Campuses

The industrious, talented government lecturers working in various colleges have been struggling for promotion since last couple of several years. The battle ended after three long decades, with Rajasthan government granting promotions to lecturers in Rajasthan. The appraisal comes along with a change in designation too. Now, the lecturers will be known by the titles they actually deserve—assistant professor, associate professor or professor, as per the norms proposed by UGC. Rajasthan government’s decision brought pleasant smiles to countless educators in the state.

This week, Raje government circulated a notification confirming this news, which came as a blessing in disguise for several professors. The newly promoted professors are now eligible to contest for the post of vice chancellor and deans in various universities. For those who don’t know, it’s mandatory for a college teacher to attain the title of a ‘professor’ before they can apply for topmost position in a prestigious institution.

Now that many of them have been upped to the level of a professor, they can apply for higher posts in their institutes.

It’s not just the professors, but the lecturers too that were happy with this news. Having several years of experience combined with the new ‘title’, they can now be known as a ‘professor’—an altogether different feeling for them. The same rule applies to government school teachers too.

This particular issue has been pending for long. So far, the lecturers could be promoted to the post of principal and vice-principal in various affiliated college. Since they weren’t professors earlier, holding a high position in the university was beyond their means.

Things work the same way in schools and colleges. Although degree-college and school teachers possess the same experience and degree as professors and associate/assistant professors in universities, they usually don’t get the benefits (as in extra perks in form of money and power) that accompany a higher designation. Now that they’ve been promoted, they can contribute in university operations.

The high command believes it’ll not just help enhance their talents, but also improve the quality of education in Rajasthan universities: a total win-win situation for both students and the administration!
