Rajasthan May Not Receive Center Aid Under Food Security Act

Rajasthan will not get the portion from monetary fund of National Food Security Act from Center as the state could not make available utilization certificate of money of previous years.

On the basis of proposals which were sent by the state government got Rs. 256.34 crore for the span of 2013-14 and 2015-16. Under NFSA, money was sanctioned as an aid from the center. This was done to meet needs of intra-state movement and foodgrains handling.

For the year 2016-17, the state government wrote letters to center for the similar monetary assistance.

While reciprocating to this, the union ministry for consumer affairs, food and public distribution urged to provide the utilization certificate for already provided funds. The officials have mentioned that Rajasthan’s instatement is on temporary hold and will be provided after giving the required details.

Under NFSA, the state has 4.44 crore units. Out of these, almost 27 lakh are Antodya units and out of them 95 lakh are households ration card holders which are priority based. For Rajasthan’s 69% people, center takes care of the expenses on monthly food grains weighing 5 kilos.

The state is struggling with defective selection of receivers and exclusion faults in public distribution list (PDS). While implementing the Act, the state government expended the coverage limit for the scheme for more than 69% of the population. But, on contrary, they are reluctant to use the resources from their own shelf for any additional cost. Now, they are in the process of revamping the list, excluding all the beneficiaries from it.
