Rajasthan set to introduce sewerage and waste management policy under Swacch Bharat Mission

Swacch Bharat Mission in rajasthan

Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, (Clean India Campaign) is one of the most successful key projects of the Modi government in India. Rajasthan, the largest state of the country has been continuously shining like a star under this campaign, taking it to another level. From becoming number one in the construction of toilets to now introducing a new policy of sewerage and waste water line, Rajasthan surely is moving ahead towards development in the BJP Government led by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in the state.

The Rajasthan sate government is now all set to introduce a policy for sewerage and waste water management. The state government aims at implementing this policy in more than 70 cities and towns in the first phase of the programme. The policy will turn out to be helpful in providing wastewater collection, reuse and other treatment facilities in irrigation and industrial areas. Rajasthan government under the leadership and guidance of Smt. Vasundhara Raje have been continuously working hard for the state and the good news it, the efforts are turning fruitful.

“The idea behind this policy is that the time has come to put sewerage and waste water in priority. It is important that every household is connected with a functional toilet. Currently, there is no plan to use the waste water for productive uses. The policy has been brought in to change this. The parameter will be of international standards,” said Manjit Singh, principal secretary, local self government.

“The target is to join sewerage and connect civic lines with a focus on agriculture. Rajasthan has a history of water issues and this will help in tackling that. In the first phase, we aim to connect 76 cities and towns. This will target almost 70% of our population in the next three years,” Singh said.

“With sewerage not being tackled leads to health hazards as well. With this policy, that will also be treated. Health standards will improve which will help in increasing life expectancy in the state,” Singh added.

The treated wastewater effluent will added to the water stock for reuse. “Priority shall be given to agricultural reuse of treated effluent for unrestricted irrigation. Blending of treated wastewater with fresh water shall be made to improve quality where possible. Crops to be irrigated by the treated effluent or blend thereof with freshwater resources shall be selected to suit the irrigation water, soil type and chemistry, and the economics of the reuse operations,” said the policy.

Rajasthan infamous of a desert state has been struggling with drought like conditions in the past and is now struggling with heaving water flowing through many districts through the state following heavy rainfall. It seems that CM Raje’s far-sightedness and this new policy of water management and sewerage will help the state of Rajasthan to cope up with both, drought and floods. With such rapid development in the state, Rajasthan is surely on the path of emerging as the one of the most developed and powerful states in the country.
