Paper leakage is a grave offence, even more serious than cheating in exams, as it jeopardizes future prospects of potential candidates. The incidence of question paper leakage at university-level exams has accelerated at an alarming state in India, especially Rajasthan. Barely three weeks have passed since the special investigation unit of Rajasthan government intercepted a dozen exam papers that were leaked on WhatsApp groups in Hanumangarh, Bikaner and Jaipur. And now, they’ve managed to trace the roots of this crime to real offenders.

People who use unfair means pass their exams with flying colors. They don’t realize that in this process, they’ve wronged other hard-working students who get depressed or resort to suicide, failing to enroll in good schools and colleges. Also, the ones who pass exams without gaining proper knowledge often commit blunders in their professional fields, which is why it’s important to discourage offenders at the right time.

Paper leak, usually, is the handiwork of both outsiders as well as insiders. Most of the times, they’ve their cohorts at coaching centers that support such illegal activities. Lack of police vigilance and improper disciplinary actions by faculty members are major reasons behind such happenings. However, things were going to be a little different this time!

In last one and a half months, Rajasthan Police received complaints from parents and students in this regard. This compelled them to put everybody on radar—including students, parents, school staff and coaching centers. A Special Operation Group (SOG) was constituted by the police to unveil this scam.

Upon investigating WhatsApp images, the police found that it wasn’t pranks run by prankster. The images contained actual question papers of M.Com. Final year (Bikaner University), BA geography paper and MA ABST papers (Rajasthan University) that were leaked a few days prior to examination. These papers were meant for exams conducted between April 5 and 13. The police inquired school staff, collected evidences and arrested the following people in this matter—

  • Professor Govind Pareekh (Commerce Department, Rajasthan University)
  • HOD Jagdish Prasad Jat (Geography Department, Rajasthan University)
  • Retired Professor B.L. Gupta (Geography Department, Rajasthan University)
  • Principal and Convenor N.S. Modi (Government College, Khajuwala, Bikaner)
  • Kalicharan Sharma (Agrasen College, Hanumangarh)
  • Shambhudayal Jhalani (SSG Pareek Girls College, Chomu)
  • Nipun Modi (Bikaner university student who requested papers)
  • Sharad (Employee, Ramesh Book Depot)

According to SOG IG Dinesh M N, these offenders followed a preset modulus operandi for crime. They got in touch with teachers who framed paper and approached them. They retrieved a copy of this paper and leaked it to students who paid expensive prices for the same.

Having collected all evidences, the police registered an FIR in this case and arrested all offenders. They’re investigating other reports of paper leaks in different universities, as well. Vigilance and quick action by Rajasthan police as well as state government exposed the biggest paper leak scam of all times.

Rajasthan Government has Bigger Plans to Improve Quality of Education

In August 2014, the government presented ‘Rajasthan Vision 2020’, under which, they constituted CM’s Advisory Council for ensuring quality education in state. The advisory committee was given the responsibility to strengthen school infrastructure. They’re responsible for developing model schools and facilitating technical as well as girl education. With the valuable suggestions from CM advisory council and support of Rajasthan police SOG, the government will try to prevent such mishaps in future!
