The NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) released India’s Top 100 Universities list this Monday, on behalf of union ministry of human resources development. With the announcement of this list, it was pleasant to see many Rajasthan institutes make it to the top 100 list. Banasthali Vidyapith (89th rank), BITS (Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences) Pliani grabbed 21st position in the overall university category whereas Rajasthan University slid to the 79th position. The good thing is that RUVAS (Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal sciences) grabbed 68th position and IIM Udaipur bagged 63rd rank).

Other engineering institutes that made it to the top 100 list include—IIT Jodhpur (65th rank), MNIT (Malviya National Institute of Technology) grabbed 70th position. BITS Pilani did better in the engineering category and grabbed 16th rank on the list of top engineering institutes. The results of top management institutes were even better as IIM-Udaipur made it to the 15th position.

Top 100 Universities in India: The List is a Pleasant Surprise for Some and an Eye Opener for Others

Every year, the NIRF conducts a survey of top universities in India. They consider several parameters like administration, syllabus, student discipline, research, faculty, campus security, hygiene, number of papers published in prestigious magazines, number of awards one etc.

Based on these parameters, it was surprising to note that Rajasthan University scored just 35.58%. This is because Rajasthan University has—

  • 339 faculty members with PhD or post-doctorate degree.
  • 901 research papers published in prestigious science journals.
  • 884 articles published in Scopus Research journal.
  • 11 lakh students enrolled in various departments.

The university administration is constantly making amendments to their existing academic structure to improve the quality of education. Nevertheless, they’ve failed to produce good results on several grounds, due to inappropriate fund utilization. The funds allotted for research work and campus management are not being utilized properly, which is why the university has failed to rank in top 100 colleges in the country.

The leading university in India is IISc (Indian Institute of Sciences) Bangalore. They’ve topped the list due to its extraordinary management skills. In future, the faculty of various Rajasthan institutes will brace up to improve their rankings.
