Raje wins Rajasthan, yet again

In the house of 200 in the Rajasthan Assembly, the ruling BJP has 160 members and Congress 24. National Peoples Party has four, BSP has three, National Unionist Zamindara Party has two and seven are independents. The BJP captured all four Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan in Saturday’s election that saw Congress-backed Independent candidate Kamal Morarka defeated. The winning candidates from the BJP included Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, party’s national vice-president Om Prakash Mathur, retired RBI officer Ramkumar Verma and Harshvardhan Singh of the Dungarupur royal family.

A lot of eyes were fixated at Rajasthan given then winning streak that Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has brought about in the State. This time too, Raje proved her mettle and won all 4 seats. It is said that even after holding almost all the seats, Raje’s hold on the party and her MLAs is invincible. The fact was proven true on Saturday when all the BJP MLAs voted in favour of the members nominated by the Bhartiya Janata Party. Party candidates garnering a total of 164 votes reflects how the party MLAs reposed their faith in the Rajasthan Chief Minister. Kamal Morarka, former Union Minister and an industrialist who contested the poll as an independent candidate and was supported by some of the opposition parties including the Congress, was defeated because of the cemented front of the BJP MLAs.

Time and again, the influence and charisma of Raje’s leadership in Rajasthan has brought about victories for the saffron party. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had led her party to a two-thirds majority in the assembly elections held in late 2013, unseating the Congress. Months later she posted a perfect score in the national election, with the BJP winning all 25 of Rajasthan’s seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party also registered an impressive win in municipal elections in Rajasthan. The Rajya Sabha victory matters immensely for Raje in Rajasthan because it reflects how well strengthened and ordered the state is, both in terms of governance and in terms of the Party, even after completing almost half the term.

Time and again, Raje has made history in Rajasthan. Historic reforms have been brought about, revolutionary benefit transfer system is now in place, tech based water conservation movement is rising, startups are being nurtured, and so are young girls – the face of Rajasthan looks better than ever and one can assume that this time around, Rajasthan shall stick on to the leader that is taking it to the glory it deserves.
