Rajkumar Hirani, aka Raju Hirani, one of the most successful directors of Hindi Cinema has turned 55 today. Born on 20th November 1962, Hirani tried a lot of things before actually becoming a director and producer. His parents wanted him to be Chartered Accountant but his destiny had something else written for him.

Hirani has given India pure gems in the form of movies like Munnabhai MBBS, 3 Idiots, PK, and others. On the occasion of Raju Hirani’s 55th birthday, here is a list of his epic movies that not only proved to be blockbusters at the box office but also made a special place in the hearts of the audiences.

1) Munna Bhai MMBS (2003)

Sanjay Dutt had already played the role of a don but this time, he along with Arshad Warsi left everyone laughing. The pair of Munna and Circuit became an instant hit. The movie gave a valuable social message in a highly unconventional way which the viewers had never seen before. This directorial debut of Rajkumar Hirani went on to win the 2004 National Awards for Best Popular Film. Besides, it also won several Filmfare awards as well. Loosely based on 1998 American flick patch Adams, the movie was further remade in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

2) Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006)

Sequel to the movie Munnabhai MBBS, this movie again portrayed Munna, the don, with his sidekick Circuit in a hilarious manner. Introducing some twists here and there, the movie added elements of Gandhigiri which became a trend after the release of the film. This film won 4 National Awards alongside many other accolades. Besides, the movie was a huge success nit juts within India but overseas as well.

 3) 3 Idiots (2009)

3 Idiots narrated the tale of friendship and at the same time gave out a strong message about all that is wrong with our education system. The movie had incredible acting skills of Amir Khan and amazing screenplay and direction by Rajkumar Hirani. It was inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone but had numerous improvisations.The movie which popularized the phrase ‘All is Well’ became the highest grossing film in its opening weekend. It also held records for highest net collections in the first week of release in Bollywood.

 4) PK (2014)

The pair of Amir and Hirani once again hit the theatres with the masterpiece PK which won the hearts of the viewers almost instantly. The film narrated as to how religion is misinterpreted by the masses through blind faith. Although it created controversy in parts of India, the movie got released without much fuss. It was successful on Box Office and won many awards like Filmfare, Star Guild, Screen Awards, and Telstra People’s Choice Awards at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
