Rajkummar Rao “Newton” India’s Official Entry in Oscars 2018

Oscars 2018 race has begun. And India has finalized its entry. It’s official now that ‘Newton’ will be Indian entry at the Oscars next year.

Film Federation Of India (FFI), in an official statement, confirmed the nomination on Friday. Hindi movie was the unanimous choice of FFI’s selection committee, headed by Telugu producer C V Reddy.

“Newton” directed by Amit V Masurkar and starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Raghubir Yadav, the film received rousing accolades at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and was released in cinemas on Friday.

Sunil Lulla, Eros International Media Ltd, said: “It gives us immense pleasure that Newton is India’s official entry to Oscars 2018. We, at Eros, are extremely proud as this film is totally deserving of this huge honour and we will continue to back good cinema as always.”

Highly Anticipated

Newton is a dark political comedy about a government clerk, assigned to conduct elections in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh, despite the fear of Naxalite attacks. Masurkar penned the screenplay along with Mayank Tewari.

The film, which was released in cinemas yesterday, for the Oscars was “cherry on the cake”, said actor Rao. “It is a really honest film and we are already getting an overwhelming response. We will put all our energies to take the film forward,” he added.

Newton Wins The Heart Of Legend

Newton also winning Bollywood hearts on Twitter. Actor Amitabh Bachchan was the first to laud the film.

“Saw the film ‘Newton’… its stark reality was a treat to watch ! An eye opener on many aspects!” he tweeted.
