Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Jayanti is celebrated annually to celebrate the birth anniversary of the renowned saint of the 19th Century named Ramakrishna (1836-1886). Although as per the English Calendar, his birth date is 18th February, the Jayanti is observed on 17th February according to the Hindu calendar. He took the journey of seeking God to a whole new level and taught the world how to seek the truth.

Born in a Brahmin family of Hoogly district West Bengal, he was religiously inclined and had huge faith in Goddess Kali. Known as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa by his devotees, he initially served as a priest at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. He got married to Sarada Devi who became his spiritual counterpart later.

Swami Vivekananda, another famous saint, was one of his disciples and even found the Ramakrishna Math. That spreads the spiritual movement of Ramakrishna Mission worldwide.

Every year, the Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Jayanti is celebrated on 17th February across all the Maths of the saint. In the Kurseong district of Darjeeling, the birth anniversary of the saint is scheduled to be celebrated with great joy. As per the reports, the Ramakrishna Vedat Ashram located on the Goenka road will be hosting various programs for the Jayanti.

At 5 am in the morning, the devotees will perform Aarti followed by Paath and other rituals from 8 am to 12 noon. From 1 pm to 2:20 pm, the distribution of Prasad will take place and then devotees will be reciting holy songs in praise of the saint.
