Rio olympics india 2016

These Olympics at Rio de Janeiro is very special for India. For the first time in history, India has sent a delegation of more than 100 players to fight and star at Olympics. With the completion of Day 6, it is a mixed bag of headlines from Rio. There were various competitions today featuring some big Indian players like Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza, and Indian Hockey Team, etc. We all surely have some high hopes for them this summer.

Badminton

It was s start of the game for our shuttlers in solos as single players Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth has made a promising start in their game, while the other side of the day seemed disappointing as the women’s doubles duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa and the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy lost their opening matches. This is quite sad but there are still hopes in Badminton singles’ game.

Tennis

Tennis brought some good news as Indians cleared the mixed doubles game and entered quarterfinals. The tremendous pairing of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna started with a win, defeating Sam Stosur and Jonathan Peers of Australia in straight sets. Afterward, they face strong opponents from Australia defeating whom in a one hour and 13 minutes game, to book a place on quarterfinals. Their next competition will be with the British pair of Andy Murray and Heather Watson for semi-finals place, in order to bring them closer to medal contention.

Hockey

The Indian Hockey team just managed to book their seat in the quarterfinals defeating Netherlands, even after going down 1-2 in the game. India is on 3rd spot in pool B standings, and it is predicted that even if they lose against Canada in their coming fourth match on Friday, they will manage to make it to the last eight stage. As far as the Women Hockey is concerned, they continue their game style while losing to the US with 0-3 scores as their third consecutive defeat. They have not won in Rio till now as they started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Japan, and then lost to Britain and Australia.

Archery

The hopes of many Indians shattered as there was an abrupt ending to the participation of India in Archery as both Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi got eliminated. Now the hopes of Archery is only left with less fancied Atanu Das, as he is in the pre-quarters of the men’s event, and will be in action on Friday.
