Salim Khan, the new angle in Naseer Twinkle clash

Salim Khan, the new angle in Naseer Twinkle clash

We can’t say about other countries, but in India it gets very difficult to susshh a controversy down. Everyone understands that they have the right to say and express, but sometimes people take on this power of expression to another level.

Recently, a tweet clash came bubbling up between veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah and actress, blogger and writer Twinkle Khanna. Mr Shah in an interview with The Hindustan Times remarked something on the past era of 70’s and its significance in Bollywood as a whole. He basically said that, “It was the 70s when mediocrity came in Hindi films. That’s when the actor called Rajesh Khanna joined the industry. For all his success, I think Mr Khanna was a very limited actor. In fact, he was a poor actor. Intellectually, he wasn’t the most alert person I have ever met. His taste ruled the industry.”

Now when you’re simply being asked about your perception of the 70’s, why do you have to go ahead and explain it by belittling the actor who joined Bollywood at that time? Blaming a great actor like late Rajesh Khanna for the mediocrity his era established and for being poor and less intellectual as an actor is definitely not the done thing and was a shock itself as it came from an ‘intellectual’ actor like Mr Shah.

It’s obvious that when someone takes a dig at a personality who isn’t alive anymore, someone close to him will come and defend him. This is what Twinkle as the perfect daughter did and while doing so she kept in mind that she on her part doesn’t disrespect the elderly unlike Mr Shah. She tweeted, “Sir if you can’t respect the living, respect the dead – mediocrity is attacking a man who can’t respond,”

Following Twinkle Khanna’s above mentioned tweet, the entire twitterati went crazy and to calm them down, Twinkle played her humor card and tweeted, “Now can everyone go play Pokemon,” to decrease the heat.

Now this was all that happened few days ago and everything ended with Mr Shah’s apology which said, “I apologise to those who were personally offended, my intention was not to attack him (Rajesh Khanna).”

But as we mentioned earlier, India and Indians do not forget anything in a jiffy. Salim Khan, writer and father of Salman Khan, came and joined Naseeruddin Shah and Twinkle Khanna as the third angle of the triangle. The best part is Salim Khan’s connection with the controversy.

Mr Khan was told by someone that a huge gathering of fan can only be seen outside Galaxy Apartments (Khan’s residence). But being a writer, Salim Khan had to form a plot to enter into a dying controversy by bringing late Rajesh Khanna’s name again. Though Salim Khan blasts Naseeruddin Shah by tweeting, “I have seen bigger crowds many times outside Rajesh Khannas house. He was the first and the last superstar of the millenium.

Anyone calling him a mediocre actor should know that no one can reach these heights unless he has something extraordinary to offer.” It was not the need of hour.

We appreciate praise from Salim Khan on Rajesh Khanna praise for late Rajesh Khanna and his words were genuine words of admiration. It’s just that, this simple comment fired up something from the past unnecessarily and in a way proved our point that in India, it’s hard to forget things.
